Yes. we see clients throughout Alabama, and sometimes it is easier to meet virtually than driving a long distance, and it helps when there are storms or other extreme weather. We can do any session virtually or in-person.
We do not charge for a consultation. That is a time for us to get to know you better, and for you to ask any questions you may have and for us to answer them.
I use a collaborative, integrated, and experiential approach. I believe that therapy is most beneficial when you can trust me and we work on problems together. I like to start by getting to know you better, setting out goals, and working to achieve those goals together. With couples, I tend to use an emotionally-focused approach along with the teachings of John Gottman and will also use discernment counseling for couples in high distress. With eating disorders, I tend to use dialectical behavior therapy. With families, I tend to use the teachings of Murray Bowen. With children, I use child centered play therapy and theraplay. I also pull various ideas and interventions from other models including cognitive behavioral therapy, narrative therapy, solution-focused brief therapy, attachment-based family therapy, and trauma-focused cognitive behavioral therapy.
Insurance will take care of the payment depending on your deductible, and you might be responsible for a copay. For private pay, Roy is $175 per 55-minute session, and Meredith and Heeyoung are $130 per session for individuals and $150 for couples.
Absolutely. It is one of the best things we have done and has been really beneficial in our lives. It is part of what makes us believe in the service we provide.
I believe there are an almost infinite amount of benefits to therapy. I think it can be really helpful to speak to someone who will listen and be your ally and not judge you. As humans, we are capable of internalizing so much negativity and pain. Life is hard enough as it is. Sometimes it feels good to let it all out.
I want you to feel free to ask them anytime. During our initial consultation, during the first session, whenever you feel like it. It is my job to answer your questions so please do not hold back.
One of the most important things in therapy is to have a trusting relationship with your therapist. It may not start out that way, but eventually you want your therapist to be someone that you can trust and that you know respects you and what you are going through. Although I really enjoy being a therapist and believe in the services I provide, I know that I may not be for everyone. There are a lot of amazing therapists out there. If you decide that I'm not a good fit for you, that is okay! You are still always welcome to speak with me and ask me questions, and I hope to answer all of them. I can also be a good source of referrals. Therapy is about you completely. Your time and money are valuable, and you deserve the best therapist that is right for you.
It is perfectly normal, and you are not alone. It is incredibly anxiety-inducing to share deep and painful things with someone you barely know. I strive to create a safe and nonjudgmental environment to make you comfortable, but it is normal and valid to be afraid.
This is also normal and understandable. All therapists are different, and there can be advantages to male and female therapists. It is most important that you are comfortable. If a male therapist does not work for you, I totally get it. Meredith and Heeyoung are both excellent. If none of us work for you, I would be happy to help you find someone, as there are many excellent therapists out there.
Yes. Confidentiality is at the heart of therapy. The things you tell me never leave the room. For therapy to work, there needs to be trust and safety and privacy, and that cannot exist if your information is not protected. That is of the utmost importance.
By law and professional ethics, there are a few times where confidentiality can be broken. 1. If a therapist has reason to suspect you are a danger to yourself or someone else. 2. If the therapist suspects present or past abuse of children or the elderly. 3. By order of a judge.
Before we begin, we will discuss confidentiality at length.
The answer to that is different for everyone, and it is really up to you. Everyone goes through difficult challenges in life, and it can be beneficial to have a helping hand. Coming to therapy is brave, and being able to admit that we need help from time to time is admirable. Beginning therapy shows a commitment to change. Therapy can provide long-lasting benefits , giving you some extra tools to navigate challenges and everyday life, improve quality of life, and think about things differently.
I am vaccinated and do not require masks during sessions. However, my main goal is for you to be comfortable, and if you prefer to wear a mask, or you would like me to wear a mask, that is not a problem.
